It must be hard to know where to look first here in Joaquina: the dunes that reach 30 meters high or the beach that has a cliff on the left and seems to have no end on the right.

If your preference is the beach, know that the water is cold and the waves, disputed. It was this beach that started to introduce Floripa to the world stage back in the 1986s, with a stage of the Hang Loose Pro. In 2016, the event returned and found a city even more passionate about Surfing.

Joaca is the starting point. The beaches on the right - Rififi, (Rio Tavares) then Campeche and Morro das Pedras are also good spots. If your preference is to enjoy the summer there is a good infrastructure of bars, restaurants and some street vendors.

DUNES OF UP TO 30 METERS

And there's the second part: the dunes, which separate Joaca from Lagoa da Conceição. In some places, they reach 30 meters in height - a 10-story building. You can go up to take pictures and explore. With a little courage, rent a sandboard and go down "surfing" on the sand or "skibunda".

The look has unbelievable contrasts. The dunes have at least 28 species of restinga cataloged - and also plants adapted to water, just a few meters away. Birds such as the thrush, tern and burrowing owl roam the area where there is less human presence.

From up there, take a deep breath and keep one of the most complete views of Floripa in your emotional memory.
