The name of the neighborhood is curious: the manezinhos (natives) say that it arose because of a gigantic cane field that belonged to the Vieira family. Then you already know: the scallop canes!

Here, the first hotel appeared in the 1930s. Ten years later, the arrival of boat fishing, which took fishermen out for long periods, also transformed the community.

ARGENTINES

The tourism boom began in the 1970s, with the construction of the José Carlos Daux Highway, SC-401 - At the time, a simple highway with most of the dirt tracks.

In that decade many Argentines began to buy real estate here. Therefore, it is common to hear and read in Spanish in Canasvieiras!
