SANTO ANTÔNIO DE LISBOA

SMART TOUR BRASIL - EDIÇÃO FLORIPA

Hello dear! Welcome, môquiridu!

Arrive in one of the most traditional areas of Floripa: the Parish of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades. At around 1750, Azorean immigrants began to arrive here after agreeing to restart their lives on this side of the Atlantic.

The region was chosen to receive settlers because it already had a minimal structure such as fresh water, flat areas and a sheltered area, excellent for anchoring vessels.

The Church, which has the same name as the community, today also pays homage to Santo Antônio de Lisboa. It took just five years to build - not much for the time.

DEVOTEE OF THE SAINT

It was Dona Clara de Avellar, granddaughter of the first white man to "govern" the region, who donated the land and a certain amount of money for the work to advance. The story tells that she was a devotee of Saint Anthony of Lisbon. Inside the Church, the matchmaker Saint is also on the main altar.

The location of the Church is no accident. On a small hill, so that it could be seen from afar, facing the sea - that was the order to erect these buildings.

Inside, the building listed as municipal and state historical heritage is one of the most beautiful examples of Baroque and Rococo in the south of Brazil. The altars have beautiful wooden carvings. The artistic elements are seamlessly integrated with the architectural ones.

DON'T MISS THIS ONE!

Outside the church, you can explore the houses and the few streets. If you have time, wait until sunset. The one in Santo Antônio de Lisboa is one of the busiest on the island! You won't believe the colors, especially in autumn!

Until the next stop, mosquiridus!
