We are in the south of Maranhão, in one of the most beautiful and visited regions of our state. Here, on the SmartTour Brasil APP, we will travel together through the natural beauties, history and culture of Imperatriz!

We are the second most populous city in Maranhão, with around 260,000 people - just behind the capital São Luís. The temperature in winter does not drop below 21oC. In summer, we are close to 40oC!

We are also the meeting point between the Amazon Forest and the Cerrado. That's why Nature here is so special. Visit our attractions and respect the environment!

The main attraction is the Chapada das Mesas National Park, but here through the APP we go further. Let's walk together along the Tocantins River, discover attractions such as Beira-Rio, Praça da CulturA and Freitas Park.

Our history begins at the end of the 16th century with the arrival of pioneers who sailed in search of the mouth of the Tocantins River. Two Jesuit Fathers, Manuel Nunes and Francisco Veloso, would have been the first whites to use the land there in 1658.

The foundation came almost 200 years later, when an expedition that left Belém (PA) arrived and initially named the region Santa Teresa do Tocantins.
