Lagoa do Portinho

Legend has it that a tragic love story between the children of two enemy tribes gave rise to Lagoa do Portinho, one of the most famous postcards in Piauí. Although she knew they could not be together, Macyrajara, daughter of the chief of the Tremembés tribe, let herself be carried away by her passion for Ubitã, a warrior from an opposing tribe.

When Macyrajara's father discovered the romance, he trapped the young woman in a hollow and left seven warriors watching over her. Upon learning this, Ubitã left in the dead of night to save his great love. However, coming close to the hollow, he was killed by an arrow.

Mourned, Macyrajara wandered off into the woods. Her journey lasted three days, until she reached a waterhole. Seeing the young woman's sadness, the god Tupã turned her tears into a watercourse to separate the two tribes and immortalize the love of Macyrajara and Ubitã. And that's how Lagoa do Portinho came about.

ATTRACTIONS

The legend of the origin of the lagoon may even be sad, but today the place is known as one of the main points of leisure and fun in Paranaíba. In addition to the naturally beautiful view, boat trips, hiking through the dunes that surround the lagoon and lots of forró on weekends complete the list of attractions there.

The more adventurous can choose to go down the zipline from the top of the dunes, sliding down to the waters, for a refreshing swim in Lagoa do Portinho. The area is also very popular for the practice of sports such as windsurfing.

The lagoon is on the border between Parnaíba and Luís Correia, with access via the BR-343 highway. Whether you want to spend a day or more, there is a holiday colony that offers accommodation, food and drinks and boat trips. On weekends, the action is due to forró and samba shows.

TO THE FLAVOR OF THE WIND

The waters of Lagoa do Portinho change according to the weather conditions, sometimes darker, sometimes bluer, and are supplied by the Portinho and Brandão streams, which flow into the Igaraçu River. On its banks, the white sand dunes are shaped by the action of the wind and, to the south, the region is covered by bushes and mangroves. Get ready for lots of photos in front of this beauty in motion!
