Church of Our Lady of the Rosary
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary is an architectural and historical gem of Petrópolis with a curious history of strong religiosity and beauty.
The original Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary was inaugurated on May 3, 1883, built in part with alms collected by former slaves. This chapel represents one of the first religious landmarks in the city of Petrópolis and is a symbol of devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary, the patroness of slaves at the time.

In 1953, due to the effects of time on the old chapel, Monsignor Gentil was entrusted with the construction of a new church. In order not to interrupt the religious activities, the original chapel was kept while the new one was built around it. During the construction in 1956, a fountain emerged, named the Fountain of Our Lady, located in the area of the Monsignor Gentil School, next to the church. The new church was inaugurated in 1958, and its bells came from the Cathedral of São Pedro de Alcântara.

The church also holds a special significance as a space of resistance and preservation of Afro-Brazilian culture during the period of slavery. In addition to traditional religious celebrations, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church has become a gathering place for various festivities and celebrations. Visitors will have an inspiring and memorable experience in this important place of peace and prayer.
