Monumento Manoel Joaquim Pinto

Welcome to the Monumento Manuel Joaquim Pinto, located in the heart of São Joaquim city! Here, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the tropeiros who explored this enchanting region of Serra Catarinense.

This imposing monument, situated next to the Municipal Prefecture, covers an area of 230 square meters, divided into three sections. As you enter the monument, you will be greeted by a special stone from the farm of São Joaquim's founder, Manuel Joaquim Pinto. This stone is part of the number seven, which symbolizes the municipality's anniversary and is associated with various symbolic elements.

In the central section of the monument, you will find a depiction of the map of São Joaquim, surrounded by the Pelotas and Lavatudo rivers, which play a fundamental role in the formation of the Uruguay River basin. Despite the peculiar position of the rivers in the monument, it was carefully designed taking into account the proportion of the shapes of the states of São Paulo and Santa Catarina. This arrangement also represents the arrival of important personalities in the colonization of São Joaquim, crossing the Pelotas River from Rio Grande do Sul.

Within the map of São Joaquim, you will find maps of the states of São Paulo and Santa Catarina, interconnected by a bridge. The flagpoles of these states are adorned with pine knot apples. This symbolism represents the connection between the cities of Piracicaba (SP) and São Joaquim (SC), in homage to Manuel Joaquim Pinto, a bandeirante from Piracicaba who explored the lands of the Serra coast and founded the Freguesia de São Joaquim do Cruzeiro da Costa da Serra.

On the trunk of the monument, an emotional sculpture depicts a troop of animals led by Paulista bandeirantes. This representation symbolizes the movement of these pioneers in search of new horizons. In addition, there is also a sculpture depicting cattle work on a farm, highlighting the importance of cattle herding and cultural tradition in São Joaquim.

At the back of the monument, you will find the mausoleum, which houses the remains of Manuel Joaquim Pinto. Above the tomb, a cross rises, representing the cycle of life and Christianity. The cross is covered with glass shards that shine brightly under the sunlight and the spotlights at night.

The entire landscaping of the monument has an oriental influence, both in the technique used in the construction of water blades and streams, using stones, and in the presence of stone slabs covered with lichens from the construction of the Matriz Church. These stones were carefully collected from the property of Mr. Galeno Tadeu Proença.

The Monumento Manuel Joaquim Pinto is a true journey through the history and culture of São Joaquim, filled with details and elements that evoke past and present events. We invite you to explore every part of this unique monument and learn more about our beloved city of São Joaquim. Enjoy your visit and experience all the beauty and enchantment that this place has to offer!
