João Ribeiro Square

Welcome, everyone, to São Joaquim, a city that captivates with its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. Here, in the heart of the city, we find João Ribeiro Square, a tribute to Colonel João da Silva Ribeiro Júnior, one of the region's most influential leaders. It was he who played a fundamental role in the foundation of the Freguesia de São Joaquim da Costa da Serra on April 1, 1873.

João Ribeiro Square, formerly known as the church garden, is a place of exceptional beauty. With paved paths, flower beds, and an acoustic shell for local events, the square invites you to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the environment. Although the monument commemorating the centenary of Brazil's independence, inaugurated on September 7, 1922, no longer exists, the square keeps the memory of the past alive.

One of the highlights of the square is the small lake with a fountain that freezes on the coldest days, just like the trees that form true ice sculptures in winter, enchanting visitors. Additionally, there is a clock that displays the city's temperature, gaining prominence in the news when it reaches negative temperatures.

Next to João Ribeiro Square, we find the imposing Parish of São Joaquim, a symbol of faith, devotion, and community unity. The construction of the church began with Father João Casale and was completed with the contribution of Father Blévio Oselame. The parish, founded in the early 20th century in 1902, is an important landmark in the city's religious history.

We invite all visitors to learn about the history of the parish, participate in the celebrations, and enjoy the warm hospitality of the people of São Joaquim. Take the opportunity to explore every corner of João Ribeiro Square, admire its sculptures, walk along its paths, and be enchanted by the natural beauty that blends with the region's rich history.

Welcome, everyone, to São Joaquim, where the past and present meet, and where faith and nature come together to create a unique and memorable experience. Enjoy your visit and feel at home!
