Welcome aboard the Maria Fumaça, a charming journey that transcends time and space, connecting Tiradentes to São João Del-Rei. Inaugurated on August 28, 1881, by the Oeste de Minas Railway, under the gaze of D. Pedro II, this railway was a pioneer in Minas Gerais, bringing development and charm wherever it went. Affectionately known as "Bitolinha" due to its narrow gauge of 76 centimeters, the railway still operates this historic stretch today for tourism purposes, keeping the tradition and history alive.

The tour offers stunning views of the Serra de São José and follows the picturesque Rio das Mortes, famous for its history in the War of the Emboabas. The experience is enriched by the preserved 19th-century architecture at the stations and by the warm hospitality of the local people, who wave and wish passengers a pleasant journey.

Additionally, the São João Del-Rei Station is home to the Railway Museum, inaugurated in 1981, which features a fascinating collection of objects that narrate the trajectory of the railway in Brazil. This railway complex is one of the largest in the country, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of railway transportation and its impact on the region.

The approximately 40-minute journey is intentionally slow, allowing you to savor every moment of this journey back in time. This trip not only offers a break from modern routine but also an immersion into an era where the pace of life was dictated by the whistle of the train and the slow roll of the tracks.
