Igreja Matriz

You have just arrived at one of the most interesting and surprising Churches in Santa Catarina and we will tell you why:

The Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora Mãe dos Homens was inaugurated in 1973 - it is a very large church considering the population of Urubici at the time. It was built with community money after eight years of hard work.

Sometimes, the faithful offered agricultural products that were sold by the Church to pay for material and labor.

GOTHIC AND MIDDLE AGES

The style mixes the Gothic of the classical churches of the European Middle Ages and modern elements. For those who like architecture, it is a full plate.

Now, stop and watch? where is the front of the church? If you walk around the building, you will find four identical entrances. The cross shape (See drone footage in this video) is a reference to equality between men.

Take a deep breath, slow down and go in search of the altar on the south side - here comes another difference. Almost always, churches and cathedrals place the altar facing east, where the sun rises.

And you can also see this by looking at the stained glass windows, which refer to the rising sun. Stretching your neck upwards you see, in the central vault, a crown. It is a tribute to Our Lady Mother of Men, the patroness of the Church.

Since you're here and it's a good idea to make a request and a thank you when visiting a Church for the first time, take a minute for good intentions in your soul and heart.

Until the next stop!
